U.S. PATENT COUNSEL FOR EUROPE

U.S. Patent Counsel for European Patent Firms

Senior U.S. patent practitioners, clear professional fees, and coordinated prosecution that respects your firm’s client relationship.

A Reliable U.S. Extension of Your Team

Your European firm holds the client relationship and coordinates the wider portfolio. We provide U.S. patent prosecution through the communication and instruction channels agreed with you and the client.

  • Clear responsibility: a designated U.S. relationship attorney, backup coverage, and agreed reporting responsibilities.
  • Client-contact boundaries: no presumed bypass of originating counsel; instructions, draft recipients, approvals, and participation in discussions are confirmed in writing.
  • Substantive recommendations: proposed action, material alternatives, effects on claim scope, cost, and the date a decision is needed.
  • Predictable scope and fees: professional fees, expenses, and approval thresholds established at the outset.

U.S. advice coordinated with European prosecution

We advise on U.S. national-stage entry, direct filings, claim strategy, Office Action responses, examiner interviews, continuation practice, and ex parte appeals. Recommendations account for related European applications and your client’s commercial priorities.

U.S. eligibility, written description, restriction practice, disclosure duties, and continuation opportunities can call for a different approach from EPO practice. We explain the U.S. choices so originating counsel can review them in the context of the whole family.

A working protocol agreed with you

Before accepting work, we confirm the matters and deadlines, who may instruct us, filing and docketing responsibilities, billing arrangements, and escalation contacts. We also agree on review windows and call times that accommodate the European and U.S. teams.

For standard Office Action responses, we generally target a draft within two weeks after receiving the USPTO communication and the information reasonably required to prepare it. Matter-specific timing and urgent deadlines must be confirmed.

Reporting identifies the issue, our recommendation, principal alternatives, and the applicable decision date. Drafts and correspondence follow the agreed client-contact protocol.
